About This Workshop
The field of galaxy evolution covers a wide range of astrophysical scales: from the cosmic large-scale structure to a central black hole of the Milky Way Galaxy. This is a rapidly evolving field and thus it is important to understand astrophysical processes operating on various physical scales to draw a complete picture of the galaxy evolution. While a workshop focused on some specific aspects of galaxies is useful, a workshop with a broader scope essentially on everything about galaxies is highly complementary. Motivated by this, we hold a galaxy evolution workshop every June to improve our understanding of the complex nature of galaxies and their evolution over time. Here, we are pleased to announce this year's galaxy evolution workshop at the Tokyo University.
The spirit of the workshop is;
(1) present and discuss recent (and new!) results
(2) discuss what the next steps will be
We very much appreciate presentations by young scientists. We hope this workshop will make the galaxy community stronger on a long run. In the past workshops, we had talks and discussions in Japanese, but in order to further 'educate' young people, we strongly encourage presentations and discussions in English. To be specific, postdocs and staffs should speak in English, students are encouraged (but not obliged) to do so. All slides and posters should be prepared in English.
Any presentations related to galaxies (from the Milky Way to the most distant galaxies) are welcome. In addition to general science sessions, we have a focus session. We focus on the upcoming facility instrument for Subaru: Prime Focus Spectrograph. PFS is a massively multiplexed fiber spectrograph and is going to be an extremely powerful instrument to address a wide range of important astrophysical questions. The PFS team is planning a big survey and this is a great opportunity for young people to participate a big international collaboration. We will invite a few key people from the PFS collaboration and discuss how we, the Japanese community, lead the survey. We also welcome oral/poster contributions about science with PFS.
We look forward to seeing you at the workshop!

Although our funding is limited, we offer travel support. If you would like to receive a support, please indicate that when you fill out the online registration form below by Apr. 21 (Sun). We will give priorities to speakers and students.
This workshop is supported by NAOJ and Kavli IPMU.
